Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 2:7-12
Introduction
- What is the difference between fathers and mothers?
A. THE TENDER FATHER
- 1 Thessalonians 2:7
"But we proved to be gentle among you, as a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children. "
- The example of God’s affection in the parable of the prodigal son.
B. THE TRANSPARENT FATHER
- 1 Thessalonians 2:8, 10
“Having thus a fond affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us.... You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who believed.”
- “Lessons are often caught rather than taught.” — It is leading by example.
C. THE TOILING FATHER
- 1 Thessalonians 2:9
“Surely you remember, brothers, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you.“
- The next challenge is to work diligently, yes, but responsibly. What does that mean?
D. THE TEACHER FATHER
- 1 Thessalonians 2:11-12
“For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.”
- The father lastly acts as the teacher to the child. Three words are being used here in this verse — exhorting, encouraging and imploring
Conclusion
- As fathers, I know we are struggling with both failures and successes. But we will continue to strive as it is our calling.
- Let us look to God and be thankful and to call upon Him for grace.
Happy father’s day!
