Scripture: Ephesians 5:18-21
INTRODUCTION
- There are so many terminology of the work of the Holy Spirit: Baptism, Filling, Anointing, Outpouring, etc.
- What then is the meaning of the Filling of the Holy Spirit?
【Ephesians 5:18-21】
18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,
19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart,
20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.
1. THE NEEDS OF MAN
- “Do not fill drunk with wine, for that is debauchery”
- Why do men drink wine?
A. The need for excitement from monotony
B. The need for relief from sorrow
C. The need for companionship in celebration
D. The need for healing and health
2. THE PROVISION OF GOD
- “but be filled with the Spirit,”
A. Wine is temporary... The Holy Spirit is permanent
B. Wine can be destructive... The Holy Spirit is constructive
C. Wine has bad effects… The Holy Spirit has wonderful effects
D. Wine is man made. the Holy Spirit is God himself
3. THE PROCESS OF THE SPIRIT'S FILLING
- “Be filled with the Holy Spirit”
A. It is a Continual Process
B. It is a Control Process
4. The Product of the Spirit’s filling
A. He gives us true fellowship
- “addressing one another in psalms....”
B. He gives us true joy
- “singing and making melody to the Lord.”
C. He fills our hearts with praise
D. He fills us with thankfulness
- “Giving thanks to God for everything”
E. Humility and Servanthood
- “Submit yourselves to one another as unto the Lord”
CONCLUSION
- Would you not want to be filled with the Holy Spirit and see what he can do in our lives?
