INTRODUCTION
- “Seize the day!” [Dead poet society]
- “Walk as wise men, not as unwise, making use of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” [The Bible]
- “Opportunites comes only once”
A. THE PRECIOUS GIFT OF THE WOMAN - in worship
1. There was an opportunity
2. There was an offering
- Romans 12 talked about worship as our spiritual act of service:
- Martha did what she was most comfortable doing - she served.
- Lazarus was simply with Jesus in fellowship.
- Mary on the other hand expressed her worship with all she had - the expensive perfume.
B. THE PROCLAMATIVE GIFT OF THE WOMAN - in burial
- Two types of people would have spikenard poured on them.
- Kings would have it poured on them.
- Preparation for burial.
- What then is the proclamative part of this giving? There are two really.
1. She believes the Messiah has come to die for our sins.
2. It was expensive and it was broken.
- Don’t miss the opportunity for service and worship! It will never be wasted.
C. THE BLESSED GIFT OF THE WOMAN – being remembered
1. Words Prompted:
- “Leave her alone. The poor you will always have, but you will not always have me.”
2. Worship Perceived:
- “Why do you trouble the woman? She has done a beautiful thing”
3. Witness Put forth:
- “What she has done will also be told in memory of her.”
CONCLUSION
1. What is one worship you can give to God today?
2. How can you touch someone this week in your act of worship?
