Scripture: Matthew 6:25-34
Introduction
- Have you been on a plane or a bus before? Do you personally know the driver? Do you trust them to bring you to your destination?
- “You relax on a plane, even though you don’t know the pilot. You relax in a bus, even though you don’t know the driver. Why don’t you relax in life knowing that God is in control?”
A. Independence: A natural process
- It's natural for us to be more independent when we grow up. But when it comes to our relationship with God, it should be the complete opposite. As we grow in the Lord, we should be more dependent on God.
John 15:5
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
Romans 8:28
“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
B. Letting Go
- The only thing that we can control is our will to follow in God's ways.
(i) Struggles with sin
Matthew 6:33
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you.”
Proverbs 10:28
“The expectations of the righteous result in joy, but the hopes of the wicked will perish.”
(ii) Important choices in life
- It's ok to let go of what you love, for the sake of expanding the kingdom of God
(iii) Control in life
- Let go of your control in life and let God manifest His works in you. His plan is always to prosper you and not to harm you. (Jeremiah 29:11)
(iv) Worry about your children's future
- Keep your children in prayers and make sure they remain in a close relationship with God. When your children submit all their ways to God, He will make their paths straight. (Proverbs 3:6)
C. Letting God
- “The antidote for worry or anxiety is not peace. It is to trust. And to trust, is the confidence in God's character.”
(i) We need to remember who God is and what He has done!
- He's the same God of Abraham, David, Moses and Paul.
- He is our Heavenly Father Who loves us so much that He sacrificed His Son on the cross to save us from eternal death. He is a loving Father Who goes before us, Who will be with us, Who will never leave nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8).
- He is a God Who knows us by our names (Isaiah 49:16), Who knows the number of hairs on our head (Luke 12:7),
- God's characters are the same yesterday, today, tomorrow and forevermore.
What reasons do we have to not let God be in charge of our life?
What excuse do we still need to give to not let God be the master of our emotions, future and relationship?
(ii) Fully trusting in God
- To trust 60% is not trust, to surrender 80% is not surrender.
- You just need to fully trust in God's unchanging character, let go and surrender.
Conclusion
- My child, what are you worrying about?
- Is there anything I cannot do?
- Let go, let Me work it out.
- Thank you for trusting Me and choosing Me over the World. Just wait, be patient, persevere and see, I will make all things beautiful.
