Romans 8: 28-39
1) God is good, all-knowing and victorious
- God’s love for us is great. He has prepared good things for our good. This promise is only for those who know Him, and love Him.
- In His foreknowledge, he predestined us. The Holy Spirit enables us to be conformed to the likeness of his Son.
- Jesus went the way of the cross. He died and rose again, victorious over sin and death.
2) Called to be victorious - in all circumstances
- Jesus will not withhold anything that is good for us, anything we need to live for Him.
- His love will see us through the worst of times.
a)Polycarp of Symrna - “ 86 yr, I have served Christ, and He had done me no wrong. How can I blaspheme my King and Savior? You threaten me with a fire that burns for a season, and after a little while is quenched; but you do not know the fire of everlasting punishment that is prepared for the wicked.”
b) Vivia Perpetua, 22 yr old martyr - She said to her father, “You don’t understand, look at the pot there, can a pot be anything else to carry water ? I am a Christian and I cannot renounce.”
c) 40 Roman soldiers - singing “ We are 40 martyrs”
