Speaker: Rev. Daniel Yaw
Romans 8:1-11
Introduction
When you think of Pentecost – what picture conjures in your mind?
Frightened Disciples vs Faithful Disciples
Bound Disciples vs Bold Disciples
Enslaved Disciples vs Freed Disciples.
A.FREE FROM POWER OF SIN (1-4)
Condemnation Withdrawn
“There is THEREFORE now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
Christ Wins
“For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death”.
The fearful sinner vs the freed saints
B.FREE FROM PRESENCE OF SIN (5-7)
The key here is this:
“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds of the things of the Spirit.” (verse 5)
Control vs Choice
Am I in control or am I under control?
There are two categories of people now, even among Christians = where is your mind set on?
- Those who set their minds on the flesh, live according to the flesh
- Those who set their minds on the Spirit, live according to the Spirit
Restlessness vs Restfulness
The result of one living in the Spirit or not is also obvious:
- According to the flesh – death (separation)
- According to the Spirit – peace (reconciliation)
C.FREE TO LIVE IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD (8-11)
“The Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”
The life of the Spirit is a reality: Freedom in Christ is always about living in the presence of God.
The Spirit of God INDWELLS you!
Conclusion
What is Pentecost?
One time experience vs daily encounter of God’s presence
